Laura Ingalls Wilder -- Farmer Boy

Laura Ingalls Wilder is the author of the classic Little House series of books. She began writing the books in 1932.  At that time, she had no idea that she was creating fame for the places where she had lived.  She wrote only to preserve the stories of the pioneer life she recalled from her growing-up years on the mid-western frontier in the 1870s and 1880s.  Laura finished writing all eight volumes in 1943 and painted a vivid picture of the pioneer life in Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

Today, the Little House books are printed in 40 languages.  People of all ages read them.  A popular television show was even written about them.  Laura died, at the age of 90, in her Ozark Mountain home.  Fans stopped to visit her until her death in 1957. Laura Ingalls Wilder is responsible for showing young readers a glimpse of what it was like to be a pioneer in early America.
