On InBetween Mountain, between Here and There, sat little Jane-Janey John Johnson O’Hare. She came everyday, she’d sit and she’s wait for her four closest friends to come into the gate. Her four closest friends would each bring a dog, two guinea pigs and one giant hot. Each dog has two fleas, each guinea a tick and one of the one giant hogs had no lip! Joining her friends, by the gate, on the mount, were Tommy and Annie and Nicky and Pount. Amber came too, but Nicky went home as one dog (with two fleas) also did roam. Now sitting up there, on the great InBetween, were gathered a great many life forms it seems.
How
many?
How
many were humans?
How
many were non-humans?

On
the island of Bonkers two animals roamed
In
search of a place where they could call home.
Their
journey was long – they met many things…
Five
with four legs and six with red wings -- then there was a dog
Next
came a duck, a purple gorilla and a chick with no cluck.
A
mouse who could roar…
And
a goat who could sing…
A
donkey, two reindeer…and a cat with a ring.
Four
fish, no now two…six horses and a fly.
Who
was swatted by the duck but who just wouldn’t die!
Next
they met foxes – totaling four…
Plus
six Angus cows grazing by the door.
Now
that the rhyme is complete and all done…
How
many stayed in Bonkers and joined in the fun?
New
kids all come on the first day of school
Twelve
in the first grade will learn all the rules.
While
six in the second will all come to play.
And
five in the third, no, four went away.
Now
six in the fifth and five in the sixth
And
two seventh graders will come baring gifts.
To
finish the set four eighth graders will come
To
study real hard -- Ops, there is only one.
Oh,
no and the six in the fifth number three
So
how many fifth graders will there actually be?
Now
back to the task we have to do here
How
many new students have come to us this year?
Don’t
forget the 20 new Kindergarteners.

Over
the course of the year the cafeteria served
Many
find foods and some hearty h’ordevouers.
Twice
they had green rice and blue beans
Eight
times was snail pudding and weasel ice cream.
On
twenty-six days the burgers were burned
And
on twenty-one more – their stomachs did turn
From
eating pink peas and yellow tacoquitos
And
grasshopper stew and soup of mosquitoes!
Twelve
times they had hot dogs with salad and chips
And
dressing made from those brown Pretzel Fips.
Now
how many things did the school kitchen blend?
And
how would you share with your classmates and friends?

The
kids in the band
Like
angels did toot
On
harps and pianos
And
trumpets and flutes.
Six
played the drums
And
four blew the sax
While
eight carried cornets
In
their purple backpacks.
Twelve
flutists began
The
year with the band
But
four went away
After
breaking their hands.
Six
pianists came
While
two drummers left
And
six sets of six
Violins
joined the rest.
Four
horns went away
To
form a quartet
Add
you and tell me—
How
many new friends you would get?
(Taking
into account that you are a wonderful person and make friends with everyone in
the band).
