WRITING ASSIGNMENT
Assignment 6:
This next essay assignment,
LINK TO ESSAY TWO, is creative nonfiction. In other
words, you are allowed great freedom of creativity and imagination, but it must
be based on fact. Choose
one topic. Make sure it's clear which one you have chosen. Send me 1000 words of
a rough draft.
Sample topics include:
- In 2017, the United States moved over to an
at-home learning system for all students. This saved a lot of money on
buildings, utilities, and transportation for the government. Instead of
holding classes in school buildings, all students are now educated from home
using communications technology. Reese is a teenager who lives in a log
cabin in a remote valley. Describe a typical "school" day for him.
What types of technology does he use to receive his education? How does he
interact with his friends and other students? What are his teachers like and
how does he get help with his homework?
- You are the Public Relations Officer of a new
ocean liner called the Germino that has been patterned after the Titanic.
The ship has new technology onboard which will make the original Titanic
disaster truly a thing of the past. Your job is to convince the public that
the ship is safe, and to make it a much sought after cruise. With your
professional expertise, how will you make the Hercules the most fashionable
ship of the turn of the century? What will you say to the public about the
ship's new technology? How will you get the message out to the public using
communications technology?
- Your Great Aunt Sally has left you an old
community newspaper, the Gold Country Bee, in her will. Not a lot of money
has been invested in this newspaper. Aunt Sally only published it when she
felt like it, and it didn't make any money. As a matter of fact, its books
are in the red right now. It has been your lifelong dream to own a
newspaper, and here's your chance. You decide to keep the newspaper and make
it a success. In order to
make more money, you need more advertisers and you need more readers. How
will you make the Gold Country Bee a success? What communications technology
will you use in your new business?
The essay requires 1000 to
1500 words. A very successful essay will require creativity and cleverness.
You must write much more than the required word count to actually achieve
some measure of those qualities.
