What is Algebra Anyway?

Ok, so it
isn’t so magical…but once you get the hang of it – it is amazingly easy!
An unknown is a letter, called a
variable, that represents a number. It
can be any letter a b
x
y.
Actually, you’ve been doing algebra
for a long time – only you didn’t call it algebra.
EXAMPLE |
|
a) 2 + 4 = x b)
y +
3 = 7 |
Just by looking at the problems
in the example you know that:
x = 6 because
2 + 4 = 6
y = 4 because
4 + 3 = 7
Easy…right?
Well, that’s algebra.
