The Cigar Band
is a love story inspired of two special people that spans sixty-five
years. It is the story of love and hate and a deep underlying
passion and understanding takes a lifetime to develop and moments to
slip away. In this day and age, the unconditional love Sarah and
Josef feel for one another makes for a wonderful story, one that is
all too rare and much too beautiful to not be told.
Like Romeo and Juliet or The Bridges of Madison County, however, all great love stories need tragedy and separation, as well as love, to fully touch the reader, and their story is no exception. This is the story of Josef, a German American held prisoner of war in his own land who was forced to work as a laborer on a farm in the United States during World War II. It is the story Sarah, the daughter of the farmer who falls in love with Josef. The Cigar Band is about the hardships and happiness they endure together as their innocent friendship evolves into a tender, torrid, tragic and unforgettable affair which they carry in their hearts all the days of their lives.
